April 15, 2017 Los Angeles, CA by Tropico Film TURA SATANA DOCUMENTARY RACES INTO PRODUCTION John Waters, Dita Von Teese, Margaret Cho Topline Russ Meyer Star’s Unbelievable True Life Story "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is, beyond a doubt, the best movie ever made. It is possibly better than any film that will be made in the future." – John Waters TURA SATANA, star of the 1965 Russ Meyer cult classic film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, is the subject of the new documentary TURA!. Tura Satana stunned 1960’s movie audiences as Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!’s sexy, dominant, fast-driving, karate-wielding lesbian gang leader Varla. She and the film have become one of the most popular “midnight movies” in cinema history (FPKK Rocks The Alamo Drafthouse). But Tura’s wild character was a mere reflection of the turbulent and dynamic life she led offscreen, which included childhood internment at WWII Japanese relocation camp Manzanar and a racially-motivated rape. Satana turned her life around, becoming a famous burlesque dancer, dating Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, and eventually finding cult movie stardom in the Meyer classic. She had also learned Aikido, tracked down the men who raped her (never convicted for their crime) and took revenge. Many refer to Tura as the “female Bruce Lee”; Bruce’s daughter Shannon Lee will also appear in the film. Narrated by Margaret Cho and featuring interviews with John Waters, Dita Von Teese and more, the film will cover Tura’s career, personal life, and the impact she had on the worlds of film, art, music and fashion. Quentin Tarantino, Rob Zombie and Pee Wee Herman have all paid homage to Tura, who is also considered a pioneering Asian American performer and icon for female empowerment. “Any kick-ass leading lady you see in movies today? Tura was there first. She blazed the trail for them and deserves recognition for that” says TURA! director Cody Jarrett. The film, whose release was Tura Satana’s deathbed wish, is being produced by longtime Satana manager/confidant Siouxzan Perry and producer/director Cody Jarrett, with support from the YOMYOMF Foundation. Says Siouxzan Perry: “We really need Tura’s fans to get behind this. It was her final wish to have this film made, and I promised her I’d do it.” TURA! has successfully FUNDED their Kickstarter campaign! Thank you to everyone involved, but mostly THANK YOU to Tura’s fans. You got involved and YOU made this happen! We couldn’t have done it without you. Stay tuned... this journey is far from over.
